Alicia Montero, translated by Leonora Simonovis
Change of Season
Dressed like autumn
she began to embody the season
changing her attire
strolling through hues
of complacency, submission, indulgence
after successive metamorphosis
she couldn’t recognize herself in the mirror
while finding comfort
in someone else’s smile
she transformed into a sepia-
colored chameleon
rediscovered herself anew
her trunk curved with time
no leaves or fruit blossomed
she was reborn
warm sap dripping
through her veins
she hopes
alone
she waits for another
like the weeping willow of her childhood
unmoving, unerring, camouflaged.
