Introduction: The Tree of Gabriela
This was the name of the poetry workshop we began at the Liceo Bicentenario de Excelencia Industrial in Concepción, with a group of inspired students, back in 2022. On roughly cut pieces of paper, with an infinite faith in the expression of emotions, we managed to read poetry even in the crowded classrooms of the Universidad de Concepción. Today, that generation is passing its last days as fourth year high school students, with changed priorities, and only two of them now accompany us in some of the workshop activities. That is why we have included those two in this brief selection of poems: in order to pay them a heartfelt tribute for having bequeathed us this space in which other generations will be able to come into contact with poetry and write their first creations, with longings and dreams, just as they once did.
With that said, here I present seven poetic creations, two of them belonging to the students mentioned, and the other five to students of a new generation who have come to the Friday workshop with great enthusiasm and a desire to write their first poems, as well as to make them known through media such as this one, a matter of the utmost importance for our poets.
